Canada – Year 5


Welcome to Canada Class 2018 – 2019!
I am Miss Thomson your class teacher and the other adults that support our learning are Mrs Fallon and Mrs Johnson.

Here is some useful information to help you settle into Year 5.
Throughout Year 5, we will be learning about Space (Mission X), the Vikings and Anglo Saxons (The Only Way is Wessex) and the Ancient Greeks (Who Let the Gods out?).
All Children should learn their timetables. All Children should read for at least 20 minutes every day and at least once during the weekend. Children are encouraged to read a book of their own choice.
Below is the year 5 Curriculum overview and gives you an idea of what the year 5’s will be learning about in all subjects over the course of the year.
Homework
Maths, English and Spelling homework will be given weekly and there will be a half termly topic project too. As you are now in Year 5 it is up to you to plan your time carefully to make sure it is completed on time.
P.E. and Swimming Kit
Your kit remains the same; black shorts, white t-shirt, suitable footwear and an Ardley Hill tracksuit. We will have PE on a FRIDAY.
For swimming you will need a one piece swimming costume or trunks, towel, flip flops or other suitable footwear, a swimming cap for long hair and a carrier bag for wet clothes.

Additional Information
We will be doing lots of creative learning this year. Your child will need a named water bottle which will be kept in the classroom and refilled daily. Your child will also need a healthy snack in a sandwich bag or named container to have during morning break.
